RISHIKESH TEMPLES
Bharat
Mandir: Built by Adiguru Shankra Chrya
arround 12th centuray, Bharat mandir is situated
in the heart of the old town on the Banks of the
Ganges. Detailed account of this oldest temple
of Rishikesh are available in ancient record of
Kearkhand. The Inner sanctum of the temple has
the idol of Lord Vishnu, carved out of a single
'Saligram'. In the inner canopy above the idol
is Shree Yantra installed by Adi Shankraya Charya.
The original temple was destroyed by Tamur lane
in 1398 A.D. Lot of old statues , coins, pots
and other things of historical importance were
found in recent excavatiions in the premises of
the temple.
Raghunath Mandir and Triveni
Ghat: It is one of the most important
places for religious ceremonies in Rishikesh.
It is believed that the Ganga is joined here by
the Yamuna and the Saraswati Rivers. Geographically,
however, the Yamuna joins the Ganga in Allahabad.
The dusk Aarti on the Triveni Ghat is most impressive.
Parmarth Niketan Temple:
Parmarth Niketan is one of the most popular temple
complexes and ashrams in Rishikesh. The Niketan
has a school run on traditional Indian patterns,
which is known for its substantial work on Hinduism.
Every day in the evening, the Ashram organizes
enchanting Ganga Arti and Hawan on the Parmarth
Ghat.
Kunjapuri Temple:
The Kunjapuri is one among the thirteen most important
goddesses of the lower Himalayan Shivalik range.
The place situated on the Himalayan peaks offer
the excellent views of sunrise and sunset as well
as Indo Gangetic plains. The visitors can also
view the peaks of Banderpunch (6316 mts.), Swarga
Rohini (6252 mts.), Gangotri (6672 mts.) and Chaukhamba
(7138 mts).
Sri Venkateswara Temple:
The Sri Venkateswara Temple at Rishikesh was constructed
in 1972 near the Andhra Ashram run by TTD there.
(The Andhra Ashram was built by Sri
Satchidananda Saraswathi Maharaj in 1942, and
handed over to TTD in 1969.)
The major festivals conducted every
year at the temple are:
- Brahmotsavam (in the months of May and June)
- Bandara (on the death anniversary of Swami Satchidananda
Saraswathi Maharaj.
Chandramouleswaraswami
Temple: The
temple was constructed in 1972 near the Andhra
Ashram in Rishikesh. There are four sannidhis
inside the temple:
- Chandramouleeswara Swami- Lord Shiva
- Parvathi Ammavaru
- Vigneswara Swami
- Subramanyeswara Swami
Other temples:
Pushkar temple, Shatrughan temple, Laxman temple,
Sheshdhara and Bhagirath temple.
